Xi 640 LT USB

Stationary Industrial High-Resolution VGA Infrared Camera with USB Interface

The Optris Xi 640 LT USB is a high-resolution fixed thermal camera built for precise temperature monitoring in industrial environments. The fixed infrared camera with USB interface works in the long-wave infrared spectrum and measures temperatures from –20 °C to 900 °C. The detector records thermal images at 640 × 480 pixels with a frame rate of 32 Hz. Moreover, a motorized focus enables remote adjustment and ensures accurate surface readings, even in hard-to-reach installations. In addition, the compact design, stainless steel housing, and IP67 protection keep the device reliable in tough conditions. As a result, multiple mounting and cable options simplify installation in many different setups.

The Xi 640 LT USB stationary infrared camera uses an uncooled microbolometer detector. It integrates smoothly with industrial systems through analog and digital outputs as well as a configurable process interface for alarms, synchronization, and control. For added flexibility, developers can use available kits to build custom software solutions.

When combined with PIX Connect software, the Xi 640 LT thermal USB camera gains advanced functions such as line scanning, image merging, and analysis tools for research and engineering. In particular, the software allows users to adjust focus, emissivity, and measurement areas, so temperature monitoring can be tailored to specific applications.

Additionally, a wide range of accessories extends the thermal camera’s use in harsh environments. For example, water-cooled housings permit operation at ambient temperatures up to 250 °C, while air purge systems keep the lens clear of dust and fumes. Other options, including optical shutters, mounting brackets, and extended cables, ensure reliable performance in demanding setups.

Therefore, the Optris Xi 640 LT USB thermal camera combines high resolution, robust construction, and versatile connectivity. Manufactured in Germany, it supports accurate, continuous, and non-contact temperature measurement for both industrial and research applications.

Xi 640 LT USB – Fixed Infrared Camera – Important Features:

  • Industrial USB VGA infrared camera
  • Small-sized, ruggedized with motorized focus
  • High pixel resolution of 640 x 480
  • USB interface

The Optris Xi640 LT USB is a high-resolution thermal camera that integrates the functions of a thermal imager and a pyrometer within a compact, durable structure. This thermal camera is designed for industrial settings requiring reliable, continuous temperature monitoring. Operating in the long-wave infrared spectrum from 8 to 14 µm, the camera measures surface temperatures ranging from –20 °C to 900 °C. These specifications enable its use in manufacturing, quality control, research, and process optimization, where non-contact and precise temperature measurement is necessary. The VGA detector resolution of 640 × 480 pixels generates detailed thermal images, facilitating accurate analysis of spatial temperature distribution. A 32 Hz frame rate enables real-time imaging, supporting the detection and analysis of rapid temperature changes and subtle thermal variations.

The Xi640 LT USB utilizes an uncooled microbolometer detector, providing a robust, cost-effective, and low-maintenance alternative to traditional cooled infrared detectors and line scanners. The thermal camera supports a range of optics, from wide-angle to telephoto, allowing adaptation to different installation distances and target sizes. Optics are factory-aligned and fixed, while the integrated motorized focus is adjustable remotely via the PIX Connect software. This software manages visualization, configuration, optical distortion correction, and advanced functions such as line scanning, image merging, and automated hot spot detection. To ensure measurement accuracy, the Xi640 employs a 4×4 pixel minimum field of view criterion, which defines each measurement area and supports reliable temperature readings.

The thermal camera is engineered for integration into industrial control systems. It operates via USB power. The process interface accommodates both analog and digital inputs and outputs, which can be configured to transmit measurement data, trigger alarms, or synchronize with external equipment. Inputs facilitate emissivity adjustment, triggered recordings, and other control functions. Dedicated software toolkits are available for developers to integrate the Xi640 LT USB into custom monitoring or control applications.</p>

The Xi640 LT USB

is constructed to operate reliably in demanding environments. Its stainless steel housing is rated IP67, providing protection against dust and water. The compact dimensions of 36 × 100 mm and a weight of approximately 220 g facilitate installation in confined spaces. The standard M30 mounting thread and adjustable bracket offer installation flexibility. Cable options up to 20 m support adaptable connections. For harsh environments, optional accessories enhance infrared camera usability. Water-cooled housings enable operation at ambient temperatures up to 250 °C, and air purge systems protect optics from dust, smoke, and fumes. Additional accessories include optical shutters and outdoor housings for exposed conditions.

Manufactured in Germany, the Optris Xi640 LT USB combines precision engineering, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Its high resolution, real-time imaging, and integration capabilities support continuous non-contact temperature measurement. The Xi640 LT USB delivers detailed thermal data for efficient process control and enhanced product quality in automated production lines, research laboratories, and monitoring systems.

Thermography software optris PIX Connect is included and license-free.All infrared cameras are delivered with the thermography software optris PIX Connect, developed specifically for the extensive documentation and analysis of thermal images. The Windows-based PIX Connect software enables users to tailor the infrared cameras to meet specific requirements. It analyses live and recorded temperature data and triggers alarm signals for process integration. The key to leveraging the Optris infrared camera is a correct configuration. This includes detailed device-specific configurations such as frame rate, measurement range adjustments, external communication settings, and USB/Ethernet configurations. Moreover, PIX Connect facilitates firmware updates and the download of configuration files over the Internet.

Optris offers several different SDKs for our Xi and PI thermal imaging cameras. Depending on the operating platform, the infrared camera, the coding language, and the hardware platform, different software interfaces can be utilized:

The Optris IRmobile allows users to set up and commission an Optris infrared pyrometer or infrared camera with an Android smartphone or tablet. This tool becomes handy for commissioning and aligning the infrared camera’s field of view or adjusting the configuration. The app analyzes the connected infrared camera’s live infrared image stream with auto hot and cold spot detection. For pyrometers, a temperature-time diagram or the video signal is displayed. This app works on most Android devices running 5.0+ with a USB port supporting USB-OTG (On The Go).
