Xi 320 MT

Compact Ethernet Infrared Camera for through Flames Temperature Measurement in Kilns & Furnaces

The Optris Xi 320 MT is an Ethernet-enabled thermal camera for precise, non-contact temperature measurement in harsh industrial environments. It uses a highly sensitive mid-wavelength infrared detector operating at 3.9 µm. This allows the thermal camera to measure the temperature of objects inside furnaces and kilns, even through flames or optical interference. The thermal camera includes a movable lens for remote focusing through flames, ensuring clear images at different working distances. With a temperature range of 475 °C to 1700 °C, the Xi 320 MT suits high-temperature applications in metallurgical, ceramic, and chemical processes.

Furthermore, the Xi 320 MT supports Power-over-Ethernet, which eases installation and reduces cabling effort. It eliminates the need for separate power supplies while maintaining reliable data transfer over long cable routes.

Designed and built in Germany, the Xi 320 MT infrared camera, which measures through flames, combines innovation, precision, and durability in a compact design. The rugged IP67-rated housing resists water, dust, and heat. Therefore, the thermal camera is ideally suited for use in combustion chambers, kiln walls, flame heating, or reactor vessels. Because it uses uncooled microbolometer technology, the thermal camera operates maintenance-free and remains reliable for continuous use.

In addition, the Xi 320 MT thermal camera for through-flame measurement offers advanced software features through the PIX Connect platform. Users can configure, visualize, and analyze thermal images or perform line scanning and image merging for process monitoring. Moreover, the software corrects the size of source effects to improve accuracy. System integrators can use available developer kits to create customized applications and automated inspection routines.

Additionally, to increase flexibility, users can equip the Xi 320 MT with several addons. A water-cooled housing raises the operating limit to 250 °C. Meanwhile, an air purge with a protective window keeps the optics clean in dusty or smoky environments.

Xi 320 MT  – Thermal Camera for through Flames Measurement – Important Features:

  • Industrial mid-infrared wavelength imager
  • Spectral range: 3,9 µm
  • Small-sized, ruggedized with motorized focus
  • Ideal for through-flame measurements in furnaces, chemical reactors, and combustion chambers
  • Ethernet Interface

The Optris Xi 320 MT is an industrial mid-wavelength infrared camera designed for non-contact thermal imaging. Manufactured in Germany, the camera operates at a spectral wavelength of 3.9 µm and provides a resolution of 320 × 240 pixels. It enables accurate temperature measurement within a range of 475 °C to 1700 °C. The device is specifically configured for applications requiring temperature measurement through flames, including monitoring workpieces in furnaces, measuring within chemical reactors, and observing brick temperatures in combustion chambers.

The Xi 320 MT features high-resolution optics that achieve a distance-to-spot ratio of 550:1 using 11-degree optics, which enables monitoring of small targets from a safe distance. The motorized focus is remotely adjustable, maintaining consistent image sharpness as working distances vary. The camera’s compact, rugged, and IP67-rated housing supports stable operation in demanding industrial environments. It is suitable for permanent installation in production lines or integration into existing monitoring systems, where it supplies continuous and precise temperature data.

The Xi 320 MT employs an uncooled focal plane array detector with a 12 µm pixel pitch, which contributes to a robust and maintenance-free imaging system. In contrast to traditional line-scanner solutions, the two-dimensional detector generates full radiometric thermal images, allowing visualization of temperature distributions and immediate detection of thermal irregularities. These features support applications such as hot-spot detection, process control, and quality assurance in industrial manufacturing and materials processing.

The infrared camera provides connectivity through a fast Ethernet interface supporting 30 Hz frame rates and a USB 2.0 interface operating at 5 Hz. Temperature values can be output directly via an analog channel. All signals are electrically isolated to ensure reliable operation in industrial environments. Power options include 5–30 V DC, Power over Ethernet (PoE), or USB.

The Optris Xi 320 MT is supplied with the PIX Connect software suite, which supports comprehensive thermal analysis, recording, and reporting. The software includes features such as line scanning, image merging, automatic spot detection, and size-of-source effect correction using advanced algorithms. A built-in web server function enables remote monitoring and control of the camera through any standard browser. Software development kits are available for developers and system integrators to embed the camera into custom monitoring or automation platforms.

A range of accessories extends the camera’s functionality in extreme conditions. A water-cooled housing permits operation at ambient temperatures up to 250 °C. An air-purge unit with a protective window maintains optical clarity in dusty environments. Additional accessories include mechanical mounting options, industrial cables, and electrical connectors.

The combination of precise temperature measurement through flames, robust construction, and advanced connectivity positions the Optris Xi 320 MT as a reference device for mid-wavelength infrared imaging in metallurgical, ceramic, and chemical process industries.

Infrared Temperature Control as a Key Factor in Flame Hardening Success

Thermography software optris PIX Connect is included and license-free.All infrared cameras are delivered with the thermography software optris PIX Connect, developed specifically for the extensive documentation and analysis of thermal images. The Windows-based PIX Connect software enables users to tailor the infrared cameras to meet specific requirements. It analyses live and recorded temperature data and triggers alarm signals for process integration. The key to leveraging the Optris infrared camera is a correct configuration. This includes detailed device-specific configurations such as frame rate, measurement range adjustments, external communication settings, and USB/Ethernet configurations. Moreover, PIX Connect facilitates firmware updates and the download of configuration files over the Internet.

Optris offers several different SDKs for our Xi and PI thermal imaging cameras. Depending on the operating platform, the infrared camera, the coding language, and the hardware platform, different software interfaces can be utilized:

The Optris IRmobile allows users to set up and commission an Optris infrared pyrometer or infrared camera with an Android smartphone or tablet. This tool becomes handy for commissioning and aligning the infrared camera’s field of view or adjusting the configuration. The app analyzes the connected infrared camera’s live infrared image stream with auto hot and cold spot detection. For pyrometers, a temperature-time diagram or the video signal is displayed. This app works on most Android devices running 5.0+ with a USB port supporting USB-OTG (On The Go).
