The infrared camera accurately measures the surface temperatures of hot molten metals, steel, or ceramics. With its autonomous thermal measurement capability and motorized focus, it offers reliability and ease in industrial settings, eliminating the need for additional hardware. Featuring Ethernet, USB interfaces, and analog and digital process interfaces, the infrared camera for molten metal enables seamless integration into control systems and machinery.
Non-reflective materials typically exhibit high and stable emissivity across long-wave infrared ranges, regardless of surface texture. In contrast, metallic and reflective materials show low emissivity at long wavelengths, resulting in unreliable temperature readings.
The short-wavelength spectral range of the Optris Xi 05M MeltScope thermal camera matches the peak emissivity of most metals, enabling accurate non-contact temperature measurement. According to Planck’s law, shorter wavelengths emit more infrared radiation, reducing emissivity-related errors and improving repeatability. Therefore, reflective materials at high temperatures should be measured using the shortest feasible wavelength.
The Xi 05M offers autonomous hot-spot detection, ensuring effective monitoring and inspection. Designed and manufactured in Germany, it provides superior accuracy and stability compared to long-wave cameras. The mid-resolution detector (396 × 300 pixels) measures temperatures from 950°C to 2450°C without sub-ranges. Its high distance-to-spot ratio allows precise measurements from afar, while the motorized focus enables remote adjustment.
Built for industrial reliability, the compact and waterproof thermal camera supports fixed or mounted installations. In addition, featuring Ethernet and USB interfaces, it delivers 20 Hz imaging and integrates easily into control systems. Additional features include automatic spot detection, analog output (0/4–20 mA), and fieldbus compatibility (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, RS485, Profinet). Optional accessories such as water cooling and air purges extend its use in harsh environments.
The Optris Xi 05M is a short-wavelength infrared camera that offers innovation, affordability, and precision in non-contact thermal imaging of challenging objects. Designed to operate within the short-wavelength infrared range (05M: 500 – 540 nm), this infrared camera is engineered to capture measurement data for precise surface temperature analysis of hot steel, iron, brass, copper, tin, carbon, ceramics, and semiconductors. Addressing the rigorous demands of various industries, the Optris Xi 05M offers wide elevated temperature measurement ranges, exceptional accuracy, and customizable field-of-view configurations.
Measurement objects composed of non-reflective materials typically exhibit high and stable emissivity, regardless of surface texture, particularly within long-wave spectral ranges. In contrast, metallic and reflective materials demonstrate low emissivity at long infrared wavelengths. This low emissivity in the long-wavelength infrared spectrum leads to inconsistent and unreliable temperature measurement results.
The short-wavelength spectral range of the Xi 05M MeltScope infrared camera aligns with the peak emissivity of most metallic materials, facilitating accurate remote temperature measurement. According to Planck’s radiation law, significantly more infrared radiation is emitted at shorter wavelengths, which reduces the impact of emissivity variations on measurement repeatability. Consequently, non-contact temperature measurement of reflective materials at elevated temperatures should utilize the shortest feasible wavelength, given the higher temperature measurement range. The Xi 05M infrared camera is equipped with autonomous thermal hot spot detection, increasing its effectiveness in monitoring and inspection applications. Designed and manufactured in Germany, the Xi 05M demonstrates superior precision, accuracy, and repeatability compared to long-wavelength infrared cameras.
The Xi 05M infrared camera provides mid-resolution thermal imaging at 396 by 300 pixels, supporting temperature measurements from 950°C to 2450°C without the need for sub-ranges. Its high distance-to-spot-size ratio enables precise temperature data collection from substantial distances, exceeding the optical performance of contemporary pyrometers. The motorized focus feature allows for remote and precise adjustment of the focal point on measurement targets.
The industrial-grade construction of the Optris Xi 05M MeltScope ensures reliable operation in challenging industrial settings, supporting process engineers in obtaining accurate infrared temperature measurements. Its compact, durable, and waterproof design is suitable for both fixed installations and mounted configurations, ensuring longevity in various manufacturing environments.
